Position Description: 

The Oklahoma Indigent Defense System (OIDS) is the statewide public defender agency which provides legal representation to indigent clients throughout the State of Oklahoma, with the exception of Oklahoma and Tulsa counties.

OIDS is currently seeking a full-time Legal Executive Secretary in our Appellate Program, Norman office. The Appellate Program has two Divisions, each based in Norman, providing appellate services to individuals convicted in state court of all varieties of offenses in criminal cases, including those involving the death penalty.

Basic Purpose
The Legal Secretary provides secretarial and administrative support to attorneys within their division. Applicants should be detail oriented and committed to teamwork. Data entry, telephone and filing skills required.

Typical Functions
Copies documents to legal files and for the State.

Files and indexes all documents which come into the Division office.

Generates case reports.

Maintains confidential legal files, case management system and attorney dockets.

Maintains office supplies.

Operates a variety of modern office equipment.

Screens phone calls and receives visitors; provides information or refers to appropriate official; opens, reviews and distributes mail.

Submits conflict cases, expert requests and travel claims.

Tracks due dates for filing appeals and other time-sensitive pleadings.

Level Descriptor
Position will be filled at Levels I - IV, depending on candidate experience.
