Position Description: 

The Oklahoma Indigent Defense System (OIDS) is a state agency responsible for implementing the Indigent Defense Act by providing trial, appellate and post-conviction criminal defense services to persons who have been judicially determined to be entitled to legal counsel.

OIDS is currently seeking a full-time Legal Secretary in our Appellate Division, Norman office.

Basic Purpose

The Legal Secretary provides secretarial and administrative support to attorneys within their division. Applicants should be detail oriented and committed to teamwork. Data entry, telephone and filing skills required.

Typical Functions

Screens phone calls and receives visitors; provides information or refers to appropriate official; opens, reviews and distributes mail.
Maintains confidential legal files, case management system and attorney dockets
Copies documents to legal files and for the State
Files and indexes all documents which come into the satellite office
Tracks due dates for filing appeals and other time-sensitive pleadings
Submits conflict cases, expert requests and travel claims
Generates case reports
Maintains office supplies
Operates a variety of modern office equipment

Position will be filled at Levels I - IV, depending on candidate experience.
