Position Description: 

DNA - People’s Legal Services (“DNA”), a civil legal aid law firm providing high quality legal services to persons living in poverty on the Navajo, Hopi and Jicarilla Apache Reservations, and in parts of Northern Arizona, New Mexico, and Southern Utah, is seeking to hire an experienced Accountant II in our Arizona or New Mexico Office or Remote.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
(a) Performs accounting activities, including the verification, recording, audit analysis and reporting of financial and payroll transactions.
(b) Performs accounting activities relative to costs, billings, payment of vendor accounts, reconciliation of vendor invoices, budgets, payroll and funding.
(c) Ensure the accuracy of entries to the ledger accounts.
(d) Maintain accurate employee information and payroll records including pay data, attendance records, and leave accrual and hours.
(e) Review and evaluate the accuracy of payroll and tax documents and disbursements.
(f) Prepare, code, analyze, and ensure the accuracy of all timecards, case management timekeeping reports, payroll records, and accounts payable checks.
(g) Ensure the timely preparation of biweekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll reports and payment of all payroll-related taxes, premiums, and benefits payments.
(h) Compile, issue, and distribution of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports such as 941, W-2, W-3, 1094 or 1095, 1099, and 941.
(i) Research, track, resolve, and document all payroll issues, problems, and discrepancies.
(j) Prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports.
(k) Performs accounting activities, including the verification, recording, audit analysis and reporting of financial transactions.
(l) Conduct month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to verify all entries have been created and posted.
(m) Reconcile bank, trust, investment, general ledger, subsidiary ledger, and petty cash accounts.
(n) Prepare periodic financial reports and forecasts for DNA and its programs, and distributes these to staff (including field offices) and the Board.
(o) Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements: 

REQUIREMENTS: BS degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration. Six (6) years of prior work experience in general ledger accounting, accounts payables, account receivables. Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing income, Social Security, and unemployment taxes, and payroll grants, and compliance experience, preferably in the non-profit community, with experience in payroll, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting is preferred and knowledge of GAAP. Advance level experience with Abila MIP fund accounting system, ADP electronic payroll software, and Microsoft Office. Able to handle and meet deadlines, work with diverse individuals, occasionally directing other staff. Self-sufficient, good analytical skills, able to solve problems, ability to work independently and lead meetings. Excellent communication, writing, organizational, and time management skills. Strong work ethic and motivation.
