Position Description: 

Inner City Law Center (ICLC) is a nonprofit law firm on Skid Row. We are looking for extraordinary people to help us end homelessness in Los Angeles. Founded on the fundamental principle that every person should always be treated with dignity and respect, ICLC fights for justice for low-income tenants, working-poor families, people experiencing homelessness, or living with disabilities, people living with HIV/AIDS, and unhoused veterans.
Position Description: The Eviction Defense Pro Bono Coordinator is a California Barred Attorney who will have primary responsibility for utilizing pro bono partnerships to support and expand ICLC’s eviction defense work. They will utilize their own knowledge of and experience with unlawful detainer cases to bring pro bono partners on board and support their representation. They will also help build a pipeline of students interested in housing justice work and collaborate with ICLC’s legal services partners to coordinate outreach and trainings to the private bar.

Areas of Responsibility:
• Serve as an ambassador to potential pro bono partners and increase ICLC’s visibility as the leading provider of homelessness prevention services among law firms, in-house legal departments, and law schools, among others.
• Develop new pro bono opportunities, including regular clinics, to expand network of pro bono attorneys and advocates assisting tenants at risk of or facing evictions.
• Orient and train pro bono partners with the relevant laws and skills necessary to handle a variety of pro bono projects, ranging from short-term clinics and research projects to full-scope unlawful detainer cases.
• Work with ICLC staff to identify cases ripe for pro bono and place these cases with volunteer attorneys.
• Serve as the primary liaison, resource, and substantive guide for pro bono partners working on eviction and pre-eviction matters.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and complete data and reports related to eviction cases placed with pro bono.
• Support and help strengthen ICLC’s internship and fellowship programs aimed at building a pipeline of students interested in housing justice work.
• Work closely with counterparts at partner legal services organizations to coordinate trainings and outreach to law firms, in-house counsel, and law schools.
• Other duties as assigned.
Hiring Criteria: Commitment to ICLC’s mission and values. Membership in the California Bar is required. Minimum of one year of experience with eviction defense work in California state court required. Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills. Strong teaching, public speaking, and interpersonal skills. Ability to interact professionally with low-income clients, pro bono partners, and potential funders. Ability to assume responsibility and to work independently and as part of a team. Good judgment. Ability to learn new skills quickly, multitask, and meet deadlines. Access to reliable transportation.

Compensation: Salary ranges from $77,250 - $92,250, depending on qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits.
