Position Description:

Idaho Legal Aid Services (ILAS), Idaho’s largest no-cost, public interest law firm, has an opening for an attorney to join our statewide nonprofit to serve agricultural workers in Southern Idaho. Your clients would primarily consist of agricultural workers needing representation in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies on a range of legal issues including wage theft, workplace health and safety, housing, civil rights abuses, public benefits, consumer matters, a limited immigration practice, and other issues. Idaho farmworkers predominantly come from Mexico, but also include Peruvian and Chilean sheepherders, and other immigrant and refugee communities. You would conduct regular outreach and education to agricultural workers and partner organizations. You must be able to speak, read, and write in Spanish. This is a full-time position at 37.5 hours per week.

The attorney can be based out of our Twin Falls or Nampa, Idaho, offices. Both are fast growing cities located in Southern Idaho. Both areas include tremendous outdoor recreation. In addition to working with the local office staff you would join our Migrant Farmworker Law Unit (MFLU), which includes an attorney Director, staff attorney, three outreach workers, and support staff.

We are looking for a motivated self-starter who wants to make a difference in the lives of our clients. We want applicants with an interest in agricultural workers and a history of public service. Duties include independently managing a caseload from beginning to end, developing relationships with community partners, and community outreach and education. You must be admitted to the Idaho State Bar or be able to be licensed promptly, have a valid driver’s license, and have access to a vehicle for occasional travel. Our work is challenging but rewarding. You would be encouraged to participate in the professional aspects of being a member of the Idaho State Bar. We invest heavily in training our attorneys. We value a sustainable work/life balance.

Annual salary for this position is $61,500+, DOE (37.5 hour week). Excellent benefits include life, health, dental, and disability insurance; participation in a retirement plan; generous paid sick and vacation leave; and a partial telecommuting plan. The successful applicant may qualify for a Legal Services Corporation loan repayment program and federal loan forgiveness programs. Relocation assistance is available.

Requirements:
