Join an organization dedicated to improving our community through access to legal services. The Justice & Diversity Center of The Bar Association of San Francisco (JDC) has an opportunity to join our team as a Child Custody and Visitation Attorney.
About JDC:
JDC is a non-profit organization that has provided free legal services to low-income San Francisco residents since 1977. Each year, JDC serves nearly 8,500 indigent clients through staff and volunteer attorneys, interpreters, and law students. JDC’s holistic advocacy addresses our clients’ social service needs in addition to their legal needs.
About the Job:
The Sargent Shriver Custody Project (SASH) represents low-income litigants in child custody and visitation cases when the opposing party has counsel. SASH is part of a statewide program following the results of providing counsel in cases involving critical legal issues affecting basic human needs.
The Staff Attorney will represent litigants only in the custody/visitation portion of their cases. Responsibilities include: managing cases that are in active litigation; client screening; and limiting representation to the custody issues while understanding the interplay between custody and support and property issues. The attorney is expected to work independently but under the oversight of the SASH Supervising Attorney and JDC Director, and to maintain accurate database records for all cases.
The successful candidate will have the following:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Licensed member of the California State Bar in good standing
Family law litigation experience, preferably handling child custody and visitation matters and trial/long-cause
Experience working with low-income communities is preferred

Requirements: 

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
Strong oral, written, and client service skills
Fluency in Spanish is a plus
Self-starter who works well independently and in a collegial team environment
Able to effectively interact with low-income clients, opposing counsel, judges and court staff
Demonstrated commitment to social justice
Knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
