Position Description: 

The Legal Aid Society of Columbus (LASC) seeks an individual with a demonstrated commitment to making a difference in the lives of indigent people and their communities for a managing attorney position of our consumer team.

The managing attorney is responsible for assuring the highest quality of legal advocacy of the consumer team through providing leadership to attorneys and paralegals, identifying and engaging in impact representation (including litigation and other advocacy), litigation planning, strategy, community education, helping to identifying and pursue funding, and working with management to ensure compliance with all program policies, regulations, and funding requirements of the program.

LASC is a part of the Ohio State Legal Services Association (OSLSA). This includes Southeastern Ohio Legal Services (SEOLS), LASC and the Ohio Poverty Law Center (OPLC). SEOLS serves thirty counties through six different branch offices located throughout Southeastern Ohio. LASC serves six counties through two offices, the main office it shares with OSLSA and a branch office in Marion. OPLC has a small staff, all based in the Columbus office.

The Columbus consumer team covers mainly two counties (Franklin and Madison) but is expected to work collaboratively and provide assistance to the attorneys serving the other 34 counties that LASC and SEOLS serve. The team currently has 5 staff attorneys and 1 paralegal. The Columbus consumer team includes the bankruptcy practice for all OSLSA.

Requirements: 

Job Qualifications
• Licensed to practice in Ohio, eligible for admission by reciprocity, or willing to take the next available bar examination;
• Management and leadership abilities;
• Ability to build a team and be part of the management team;
• Commitment to serving the indigent;
• At least three years of relevant experience, including progressive advocacy experience;
• Capable in and appreciative of the use of technology;
• Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to think and plan strategically;
• Ability to demonstrate and promote a positive work ethic and work environment;
• Readiness to travel throughout the office’s service area.

Salary range: 
$60,000+ DOE excellent benefits/leave package and LRAP through our state funder
