Neighborhood Legal Services Program (NLSP) is a private, non-profit law firm that provides vigorous, high quality civil legal services to low-income residents of the District of Columbia. NLSP has a long tradition of fighting for justice for the poor, combining direct representation to protect essential rights and opportunities for low-income individuals and families with efforts to achieve broad-based change. Its three offices are located in the poorest sections of the District, to maximize its visibility, accessibility and connections to the communities it serves.
DESCRIPTION
NLSP seeks to hire a full-time Staff Attorney with at least two years of family law experience and knowledge of family law practice in the District of Columbia.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintain an active caseload of family law matters (e.g., child custody, child support, divorce, and domestic violence) as supported by NLSP case acceptance priorities as well as community needs.
• Develop and coordinate community education and outreach.
• Foster partnerships with community organizations that serve low-income residents of the District of Columbia.
• Actively participate as a member of the NLSP team, including but not limited to participation in cross-practice advocacy, activities, and professional development opportunities.
• Adhere to program and case-handling policies, procedures and standards of practice, as well as the highest professional ethical standards.

REPORTS TO
• Managing Attorney of the Family Law Unit
• JD, Member in good standing of the DC Bar or Pending application for admission to the DC Bar
• Two years of family law experience, including some litigation
(*May include clinical experience or judicial clerkship)
• Familiarity with DC, including its government, courts, and the Bar
• Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income persons/ communities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
