Position Description: 

The Portland Regional Office of Legal Aid Services of Oregon (LASO-PRO) is seeking a staff attorney to provide legal services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence and stalking. This is a temporary, full-time position funded for 12 months.

Background
LASO is a non-profit organization that represents low-income clients in civil cases. LASO’s eight regional offices serve the general low-income population throughout the state and two specialized statewide programs provide services to farmworkers and representation on Native American issues. LASO is an effective, high-quality legal services program that is committed to advocacy strategies having the broadest possible impact on client community problems.

The Portland Regional Office serves a poverty population of more than 236,000 in urban and rural Multnomah, Clackamas, Hood River, Sherman and Wasco counties.

Responsibilities
This position is specifically funded to provide legal representation to survivors of domestic and sexual violence as well as stalking. The majority of the attorney’s time will be spent on family law and protection order cases. This person will spend significant time providing advice and brief services to survivors at the LASO office located in the Gateway Center for Domestic Violence, a Family Justice Center in East Portland.

Salary/Benefits
Salary depends on experience. Additional compensation for bilingual ability. Full benefits package including health insurance and 401(k) plan.

Requirements: 

Current Oregon State Bar membership preferred. Proven interest in and commitment to advocacy for the legal rights of low-income and other vulnerable populations. Demonstrated enthusiasm, creativity, good judgment, initiative, and willingness to work as a team. Ability to provide victim-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally competent legal assistance to crime victims/survivors.
