Increase access to justice in the Greater Dayton community by providing high-quality legal services to individuals and families, enhancing collaborative partnerships to address critical issues of poverty, ensuring that children and families have increased access to legal representation that safeguards their homes, safety, education, health care, and public benefits, and addressing veterans’ legal needs related to housing, public benefits, employment benefits, and health care.
Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO), a non-profit regional law firm that provides high-quality legal assistance to low-income persons and groups in western Ohio, seeks a dynamic, creative, hardworking attorney for its Dayton office in launching an exciting project made possible by exceptional fundraising efforts in celebration of legal aid’s 50-year anniversary in Dayton.

The attorney will

• provide legal representation to low-income individuals and families in targeted neighborhoods
• engage and collaborate with community residents and community partners to identify individual and neighborhood needs and legal or policy solutions
• develop and facilitate community-based training and education for residents

Requirements: 

The ideal applicant has practical knowledge and experience in two or more areas of poverty law and an understanding of the socio-cultural issues experienced by people living in poverty. The attorney must have excellent interpersonal skills and be experienced in working in collaborative and group environments. Ability to empower people to work together for the good of the community. Some travel required. Membership in Ohio Bar or ability to be admitted by motion or temporary certification is required. Excellent legal and communication skills; experience with case management software and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.); familiarity with database and GIS mapping software preferred. Ability to relate well with clients living in poverty and a demonstrated commitment to public interest law required. Minimum of two years legal experience required. Ability to communicate fluently in Spanish is valued at LAWO
