The Statewide Advocacy Support Unit of Maryland Legal Aid announces an immediate opening for a full-time paralegal for the Pro Bono Program. The Pro Bono Program focuses on developing and maintaining relationships with volunteer attorneys, compliance with Legal Services Corporation’s private attorney involvement regulations, and guides the statewide placement and monitoring of pro bono cases in areas of law consistent with MLA priorities and case and matter acceptance guidelines, i.e. housing, consumer, public benefits, and family law.
Description: The paralegal provides support for the Pro Bono Program, working with the Program Director and Coordinator to respond to client inquiries, make referrals to pro bono attorneys, address concerns of pro bono attorneys, conduct conflict checks, and maintain pro bono files. The paralegal may also perform intake, make appropriate referrals to other legal and non-legal resources, assist in data collection, and develop programmatic materials for use in the Pro Bono Program. The paralegal also assists in pro bono attorney recruitment efforts, schedules attorneys for various clinics and programs, and performs other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the Pro Bono Program.

Qualifications: A minimum of one year experience as a paralegal. Excellent written and verbal communications and organizational skills required. Proficiency in Microsoft applications. Previous work with volunteer attorneys is desirable.
