Central West Justice Center (CWJC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Community Legal Aid, seeks an attorney to work out of its Worcester office assisting clients with cases involving public benefits issues, including TAFDC, EAEDC, SNAP (food stamps), MassHealth, Emergency Assistance shelter, and veterans’ benefits. Part of the attorney’s time will be dedicated to working in CWJC’s Food Security Project, which is designed to ensure that SNAP applicants and recipients obtain and maintain their benefits. The attorney will engage in community outreach and education, will participate in regional and statewide coalitions involved with SNAP-related advocacy, and will participate in regular team meetings with the Worcester County Food Bank. The attorney will handle cases at the administrative agency level and in court. Some grant reporting will be required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Admission to Mass. Bar or entitlement to practice under a Mass. practice rule required. Fluency in a second language, especially Spanish, strongly preferred. Experience advocating for low-income clients seeking public benefits and/or other administrative agency advocacy experience strongly preferred. Experience working with community partners preferred.
