Responsibilities
-The MLP program is a client referral program from doctors, who have been trained by the MLP attorney to identify legal issues.
-Building a bridge between doctors and lawyers and delivering legal assistance in the same place clients receive their healthcare will create many positive outcomes for program clients that otherwise would not have access to free legal services.
-The specially trained staff do not represent clients in criminal matters or in cases against health partner; however, we may be able to represent clients in the following areas:
• Medicaid, Medicare, food stamps, TANF, WIC, general assistance, medical insurance, unemployment benefits, Social Security, SSI/SSDI, Housing, Child’s school, guardianships, wills.
Requirements
This is an addendum to a regular full time position, salary paid at a specified rate. By drawing on the strengths of these powerful professions, we help families with children who have complex medical needs to access healthcare, mental health services, special education, developmental services, income supports, and healthy housing. In collaboration with hospitals and health systems, we provide free, comprehensive legal services to low-income individuals and families in the medical home setting. Provide trainings, resources, and technical assistance to medical and social service providers on the full range of health care programs and services that benefit patients. Conduct systemic advocacy to improve access to health care and reduce barriers to support programs for low-income children and their families. This position reports to the Managing Attorney.
