CLASSIFICATION: Attorney I (Union)
SALARY: $50,625-$71,163 (DOQ)
DEPARTMENT: Legal (Kinship Care)
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Directing Attorney

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Provide caregivers living in Los Angeles County with advice and counsel, limited scope services, extensive services, and/or court representation in Probate Guardianship matters.
• Advocate on behalf of caregivers in order to help eliminate barriers to ward’s educational, public benefits, and health care needs.
• Prepare Probate Guardianship matters for pro bono placement and work with Kinship Care staff and Pro Bono Dept. to monitor status of placements and provide technical support to pro bono attorneys.
• Assist Kinship Care project staff with updating outreach and education materials and implementation of outreach and education plan targeting caregivers.
• Assist with advocacy related to Special Immigrant Juvenile Status matters brought in Probate Court, which may include conducting new client intake, preparing cases for pro bono placement, and/or providing full scope representation.
• Work with administration comply with all grant requirements.

Requirements: 

QUALIFICATIONS
• Active member of California State Bar in good standing, or licensed in another state and eligible to practice under CRC Rule 9.45 (required).
• Minimum two-to-three years non-profit legal services experience (preferred)
• Experience in Probate Guardianship and/or Family Law (highly desired)
• Ability to train and work with volunteer attorneys and students (required)
• Spanish-language proficiency (required)
