CAPDS Staff Investigator:
The mission of The Capital Area Private Defender Service (CAPDS) is to enhance the quality of representation provided to adult indigent people charged with crimes in Travis County by assigning highly competent and motivated private attorneys as legal counsel. CAPDS’ mission includes providing educational, investigative, and mentoring services to support assigned counsel.

We are seeking an investigator supervisor whose responsibilities will include investigating cases as requested by assigned counsel, maintaining a list of eligible contract investigators, assigning cases to those investigators, monitoring the work of other investigators to ensure the highest standards are met in the most efficient manner, conducting training for contract investigators on a regular basis, reviewing investigator vouchers, and who is available as a resource to contract investigators. This person will also be responsible for training and teaching attorneys how to effectively utilize an investigator and training investigators in current best practices.

Minimum qualifications for this position include at least three years working exclusively in the field of criminal defense investigation, experience investigating cases ranging from misdemeanors to homicides, experience supervising and training other investigators, and experience training attorneys in the best practices of investigation. The investigator supervisor must have extensive experience working with indigent populations, both in and out of jail, experience working with assigned counsel, and training in client-centered representation. We will also consider an attorney with extensive experience working with investigators in a progressive criminal defense office.

Preference will be given to Spanish-speaking applicants.
Salary commensurate with experience.
