The Contra Costa County Public Defender’s Office is seeking candidates to fill vacancies for Deputy Public Defender II. Incumbents in this classification provide legal counsel and representation to indigents charged with a criminal offense and also represents juveniles in Juvenile Court.
The Public Defender’s Office has over 60 attorneys serving the Consolidated Courts of Contra Costa County which have a total of 45 departments. In addition to the main and alternate offices in Martinez, a branch office is located in Richmond. As attorneys gain trial experience, promotional opportunities exist, to the class of Deputy Public Defender III (25TB) ($9,881 - $12,010) and Deputy Public Defender IV (25TA) ($10,903 - $13,253).

TENTATIVE EXAM DATES
Tentative Oral Exam: June 23, 2017
License Required: Candidates must possess a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Out of state valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License will be accepted during the application process.
Registration: Active membership in the State Bar of California.
Experience: One (1) year of full time experience as a Deputy Public Defender in a Public Defender’s Office.
