Position Description:

Position Overview:
DRA is now and has been for many years, very financially stable, with a solid business model involving fees from cases and contributed revenue, in addition to a healthy reserve. In this new position, you have the opportunity to implement needed systems and processes to help us grow to the next level.
Reporting to our Executive Director, you will manage budgeting, audits, payroll, A/P and A/R, general ledger and financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, and internal policies and procedures. You will also oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of financial and payroll systems.

  • Manage all aspects of DRA’s accounting in accordance with GAAP
  • Develop and implement internal policies, procedures, and controls for all accounting, time reporting and payroll systems, including monthly, quarterly, and annual close schedules
  • Support the Executive Director in developing the annual operating budget
  • Generate accurate, complete, and timely financial reports, analyze variances to budget, and support the Executive Director in reporting DRA’s finances to the board of directors
  • Oversee the annual independent audit preparation, coordination with the auditor, and preparation of tax and other government filings
  • Work closely with program and development staff to develop program budgets, monitor spending against program budgets
  • Manage the financial relationship with DRA’s subsidiary real estate management company, and consolidate monthly financial reports
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and generate competitive bids as needed
  • Manage cash flow and bank account balances, and inform the Executive Director of cash flow projections
  • Hire, supervise, and provide professional development for our Accounting & Payroll Specialist
Requirements: 
  • Minimum 2 years working as a Controller (preferably in nonprofits), with 6-10 years accounting experience
  • Minimum 3 years supervising accounting staff
  • Experience writing and implementing accounting policies & procedures
  • Proven ability to identify, research, and implement solutions to business problems
  • Superior ability to communicate financial information to executive leadership
  • Ability to work collaboratively and responsively with program, development, and operations staff
  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks and MS Excel
  • Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, business, or finance
  • CPA, active or inactive
  • Proven ability to manage a nonprofit audit
