SUMMARY
The Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) seeks a full-time bilingual legal advocate/intake coordinator to work in our Citizenship unit and to participate in NWIRP's outreach efforts.
The Citizenship unit provides direct representation, legal advice, and pro se assistance for individuals applying for naturalization and proof of derivative or acquired citizenship. The Citizenship unit also coordinates and participates in outreach and community education efforts. Additionally, the unit partners with the Seattle Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs (OIRA) and the Washington Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) to provide services and technical assistance to other service providers throughout the state.

This position will be based at NWIRP's Seattle office.

REPORTS TO
Citizenship unit staff

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Serve as first point of contact for NWIRP's Citizenship unit by providing general information to telephone inquiries, assisting walk-in clients, screening for program eligibility, and providing follow-up services when necessary;
• Participate in NWIRP's outreach and community education efforts;
• Perform administrative tasks related to grant reporting and other requirements;
• Attend trainings and maintain knowledge of laws, policies, and practices relating to immigration and citizenship; and
• Other tasks as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES
• Demonstrated commitment to immigrant rights and willingness to support NWIRP's mission, vision, and values;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, and ability to organize information in a clear and concise manner;
• Fluency in English and one other language, with strong preference for one of the following: Somali, Tigrinya, Amharic, Cantonese/Mandarin, Russian, Vietnamese, Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi or Spanish;
• Commitment to working in a diverse working environment;
• Previous immigration law experience preferred (in the alternative, previous experience with areas relating to criminal justice, mental health, public benefits);
• Previous work experience working with people in crisis, refugees, or survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault desired;
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently; and
• Proficiency in use of web-based software, MS Word and MS Excel.
