The Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County (LASSMC) seeks a committed public interest- minded attorney who is concerned about protecting the rights of those eligible for Social Security/SSI benefits and securing the safety of older and dependent adults against abuse.
Responsibilities: Conduct intake interviews and research, advise, and represent San Mateo County adults with disabilities and older adults in the areas of elder abuse, Social Security and SSI, and access issues. Pursue all appropriate legal strategies, including litigation, in accordance with Legal Aid’s priorities. With other community agencies, pursue systemic advocacy efforts on issues affecting older and adults with disabilities. Conduct outreach and education to seniors and agencies serving these populations. Travel to senior centers and homes as necessary.

Qualifications: Active membership in the California State Bar;
Demonstrated commitment to public interest law;
Excellent analytical, writing, public speaking, and communication skills;
General knowledge of or experience with issues affecting older adults and/or adults with disabilities; and
Ability to drive with access to a vehicle.
Preferred: Public benefits or health law experience
Proficiency in Spanish, Cantonese, or Tagalog
Experience working with different cultures and community organizations
