The Montgomery County Office of the Public Defender is seeking to sponsor eligible candidates for an Equal Justice Works Fellowship. The Montgomery County Public Defender has over 40 attorneys who represent adults and juveniles in criminal matters through pre-trial, trial, sentencing, and appeals. We provide the highest quality representation to our clients and prioritize a holistic, client centered, and community oriented practice with the ultimate goals of securing the best possible outcomes in our clients’ cases while addressing the myriad conditions that led to their involvement in the justice system. If selected for sponsorship, we will work with the candidate to design a project that fits within our holistic representation model.
Current and recent law school graduates are eligible to apply.
Application Deadline: July 22, 2019 but applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
Application Materials: Applicants should submit the following information, with at least the first two items in the initial application:
· Cover letter describing:
1. Applicant's area of interest for developing a project,
2. Reasons why our office is the right place for the project, and
3. Any ideas for sustainability of the project after the fellowship ends;
· Complete resume;
· Writing sample (5-10 page maximum);
· List of three references.
