Position Description: 

The Migrant Farm Worker Division of Colorado Legal Services (“CLS”) is hiring a Staff Attorney who shares a passion for advocating for the rights of low-wage migrant and seasonal farm workers. The MFWD litigates cases in federal and state courts and provide administrative advocacy involving the working conditions of farm workers across Colorado. Our work focuses primarily on wage theft, human trafficking, immigration, and civil rights. We also run a comprehensive community education program that involves outreach to workers at labor camps, along with outreach to community-based groups. Currently, our client community is comprised primarily of Latino migrant and seasonal farm workers. Learn more about our work at http://www.coloradofarmworkers.org/.

The Staff Attorney will handle a full case-load and will exercise initiative, sound judgment and creativity to solve the legal problems of migrant farm workers. Duties include federal and state litigation; administrative advocacy; summer outreach to workers at labor camps; and working with community-based groups. The Staff Attorney will assume a caseload that includes federal litigation and will supervise summer interns doing outreach throughout Colorado. The Staff Attorney will work closely with the Managing Attorney and the Paralegal of the Migrant Farm Worker Division.

Requirements: 

The ideal candidate has experience working with or on behalf of low-income communities, a demonstrated commitment to workers’ rights and social justice, excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to successfully balance a variety of responsibilities. Spanish/English proficiency and regular travel in Colorado are required. Preference for applicants with prior litigation experience and admission to the Colorado Bar or eligible for reciprocal admission.

Salary range: 
$44,125 - $86,986 based on union salary scale; depends on experience
