Position Description:

In partnership with the Executive Director, Office of Equal Opportunity, who serves as the University's Title IX Coordinator, investigate and resolve complaints of sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, gender-related violence including stalking and intimate partner violence, and involving undergraduate and graduate students at the University. Lead intakes and conduct prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations in response to complaints filed with the Office of Equal Opportunity or other partner University organizations. Provide detailed, unbiased reports that may inform judicial action or proceedings at the University. Create and participate in trainings to educate the University community on policy, laws and regulations, and reporting obligations.

New York University's Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) is responsible for advancing and monitoring the University's equal opportunity and affirmative action policies, procedures, and programs. It does so by making known the University's commitment to these policies and by carrying out utilization analyses for minority and women relative to national baseline data. Analyses, carried out with respect to recruitment, promotion, and departures, are used to identify areas of focus for future improvement.

OEO serves as a liaison with the U.S. Department of Labor and other governmental agencies charged with affirmative action monitoring. To advance the university's commitment to affirmative action, OEO has responsibility for maintaining communication with organizations external to the University that represent interests and perspectives of women and minorities and for advising and supporting the Schools and administrative units in their affirmative action implementation efforts. OEO works closely with the Human Resources Division, Office of Academic Appointments, and Information Technology Services in coordinating and monitoring our affirmative action program at the University level.

The Office is also responsible for administering the University's Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy and Complaint Procedures for Employees. The OEO implements a consistent and uniform procedure for responding to and resolving internal discrimination complaints. Mary Signor, Executive Director for the OEO, serves as NYU's Title IX Coordinator, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex.

The OEO is NYU's Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator, serving as a resource regarding reasonable accommodations in the workplace.

The OEO also provides guidance and training to the University community on NYU policy and other federal, state and city discrimination laws. Educational workshops and seminars on discrimination and sexual harassment are offered to the University community throughout the year.

The vision of the Office of Equal Opportunity, in partnership with faculty, staff, and students, is to play a leadership role both at New York University and within the broader higher education community in promoting diversity, cultural sensitivity, and equal opportunity in academic excellence, research, teaching, scholarship, and service.
