Position Description: 

Root & Rebound seeks a Manager of National Programs to boost our capacity to grow our national programs. Because we are a legal resource center, the ideal candidate is a JD/attorney with a strong understanding of Root & Rebound’s model and its innovative approach to the reentry legal space.

The Manager of National Programs will grow the organization’s national projects, relationships, and collaborative work under the supervision of the Executive Director, and working closely with the alongside the Deputy Director of Program Innovation & Strategic Partnerships, and the Development team. The Manager must be a team player who can work independently while also communicating regularly with the management team based in Oakland, CA.

The ideal candidate will have enthusiasm for Root & Rebound’s model, and entrepreneurial and innovative spirit, excitement about growth and expansion, and meticulous attention to detail and project management as they oversee the roll-out of national growth and projects.

Travel is anticipated to average 25% - 40% a year. The ideal candidate is flexible to and enthusiastic about these travel requirements.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Roll-out of Root & Rebound programs in new sites, including full program launches in new states as well as smaller project launches (new legal guides and toolkits, training initiatives, policy initiatives, etc.).
Developing and refining overall expansion strategy including the process for launching in new sites and replication, and volunteer and advisor recruitment and retention strategies.
Assessing new sites, including mapping and prioritizing need and potential impact, and conducting cost/benefit analysis of growth in key states.
Overseeing management of projects and national staff, including supporting management team with national hiring and the execution of new projects.
Supporting the Development team in identifying opportunities and building relationships with national and regional funders.
Increasing the organization’s visibility, impact, and financial and in-kind resources, by communicating clearly and passionately about Root & Rebound’s history, impact, and future direction.
Working in partnership with Formerly Incarcerated Leaders, policy organizations, law schools, legal services, social services, government agencies, elected officials, higher education institutions, courts and judges, and other stakeholders across the country.

Requirements: 

2+ years out of law school with demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice and criminal justice reform.
Demonstrated leader with entrepreneurial spirit, ability to inspire and lead a team, and a strategic thinker who can design creative ways to advance Root & Rebound’s model.
Strong understanding of Root & Rebound’s model and commitment to a needs-based approach to nonprofit growth and management, informed by the individuals and families most impacted.
Flexible and adaptive problem solver who proactively seeks to identify, develop, and implement solutions.
A team player with an ability to work independently and with autonomy, and communicate pro-actively with our team.
Ability to effectively work simultaneously on multiple projects with varying priority levels and deadlines.
A humble person who is a natural, active listener and treats others with dignity and respect.
Strong and powerful communicator and relationship builder.
Willingness to travel.
