Position Description: 

Philadelphia Legal Assistance (PLA) seeks to immediately hire a full-time permanent attorney for its Family Law Unit. PLA is a non-profit legal services organization primarily funded by the Legal Services Corporation. PLA serves approximately 3,000 clients each year in the area of Family Law and views the practice of family law to be an integral part of the war on poverty and family violence. This includes taking a wide variety and complex mix of family law cases, including child custody, child and spousal support, protection from abuse and divorce. In collaboration with Community Legal Services, HIAS PA and Women Organized Against Rape, PLA is the lead agency of a grant funded by the Office of Violence Against Women to provide holistic legal services to survivors of sexual assault with a focus on immigrant survivors. This position is to primarily serve clients via this grant. The PLA Family Law Unit attorney must be aggressive, an active litigator with both courtroom presence and good research and writing skills, empathetic to client concerns (particularly family violence), able to deal with highly emotional situations, willing to work as part of a team of both attorneys and paralegals, and always maintain the highest ethical standards.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Salary is commensurate with years of experience based on union scale. Full health coverage. Generous holiday and leave benefits.

Requirements: 

QUALIFICATIONS:
Law degree and admission to a State Bar. Recent law school graduates are encouraged to apply. Commitment to family violence issues preferred. Prior work experience at a public interest law firm or in the area of family law preferred. Ability to speak and write Spanish effectively.
