Position Description: 

Legal Aid of the Bluegrass (LABG) seeks an Advocacy Director to direct the litigation and advocacy work at this Covington, KY-based non-profit with a 50-year history of making a positive impact in Kentucky. The Advocacy Director works closely with other Leadership Team members to lead the organization and ensures the delivery of the highest quality legal services to clients, meets client needs through a thoughtful, affirmative, aggressive, and client-centered advocacy program, and develops, initiates and shapes major advocacy activities, including litigation and administrative advocacy.

Responsibilities include:
• Monitoring and coordinating LABG civil litigation and advocacy efforts
• Implementing and improving litigation management systems
• Facilitating litigation education, training and technical assistance to program staff, and mentoring staff attorneys and advocates
• Working with unit leaders in evaluating advocacy staff work, conducting case reviews, and reviewing advocate caseloads
• Participating in identification, development, implementation and co-counseling of impact litigation cases

Requirements: 

Requirements, Skill & Abilities include:
• 10+ years of legal practice experience, including supervision of staff
• A work history as a highly skilled and effective lawyer, including experience as lead counsel in complex state litigation; additional experience as lead counsel in complex federal litigation preferred
• Barred in Kentucky, or eligible for timely admission to practice
• Knowledge of poverty law and Legal Services Corporation (LSC) regulations
• Experience leading an advocacy effort other than litigation
• Experience in the operation of a Legal Services program and effective use of its resources for provision of legal assistance to low-income clients preferred
