Position Description: 

Legal Aid Services of Oregon (LASO) is seeking a Regional Director for its Lincoln County Office in Newport. The Regional Director leads an office of one staff attorney and one support staff person.

Background
LASO is a non-profit organization that represents low-income clients in civil cases. LASO’s eight regional offices serve the general low-income population throughout the state and two specialized statewide programs provide services to farmworkers and representation on Native American issues. LASO’s mission is to achieve justice for the low-income communities of Oregon by providing a full range of the highest quality civil legal services. LASO is an effective, high-quality legal services program committed to advocacy strategies that will have a broad impact on client community problems.
The Lincoln County Office provides civil legal services in cases involving family law (with an emphasis on domestic violence issues), elder law, housing, public benefits and other poverty law issues.

Responsibilities
The Regional Director manages and leads an office that provides high quality effective advocacy that produces a significant positive impact upon the low-income community within the service area and the state. The RD is responsible for the proper functioning of all aspects of the office, from legal work to financial and personnel matters to office systems. Duties include supervising legal work, overseeing professional development of staff, planning and priority setting, and maintaining good relations with community organizations and the private bar. The Regional Director also has an independent caseload and in that respect has all of the duties of a staff attorney.

Requirements: 

Five years of legal experience required. Current Oregon State Bar membership strongly preferred. Proven interest in and commitment to advocacy for the legal rights of low-income clients. Legal aid experience or demonstrable involvement in poverty law issues, such as domestic violence/family law, public benefits and housing. Substantial litigation experience and excellent legal skills. Excellent communication skills and the ability to promote community visibility, awareness and collaboration. Spanish language skills a plus.

Salary range: 
Salary based on experience. Additional compensation for bilingual ability. Full benefits package including health insurance, 401(k) plan, up to $2,000 in relocation costs.
