Position Description: 

The Legal Aid Society of Orange County (LASOC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded in 1958 for the purpose of providing civil legal services to low income individuals and seniors. It has two offices in Orange County and two offices in Southeast Los Angeles County, where it is known as Community Legal Services (CLS). LASOC seeks an experienced, energetic, motivated, personable and effective Attorney to work in its Santa Office (visit www.legal-aid.com for more information about us). Under the supervision of the Executive Director, this position is responsible for overseeing LASOC’s centralized call intake center. The call center receives approximately 45,000 to 50,000 calls a year and has a staff of twelve intake workers and several volunteers.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
● Overseeing centralized call intake center and online intake;
● Supervising intake workers who are screening callers for eligibility, obtaining demographic information, and relaying advice and counsel given by attorney in all substantive areas;
● Designing call flow charts, call routing and intake and screening scripts for each area of law;
● Creating sample advice letters, referral resource manual, call center protocols, staff training manual, outcome questionnaires and other materials;
● Coordinating call center backup scheduling and ensuring accurate timekeeping;
● Ensuring timely and appropriate responses to requests for legal assistance;
● Implementing grant requirements related to intake;
● Recruiting, training, and supervising volunteer attorneys and law students;
● Exploring new models for service delivery utilizing technology;

Requirements: 

QUALIFICATIONS
● Active membership in the California State Bar;
● Minimum five (5) years’ experience in the practice of law, including board experience in lawyering skills, including client interviewing, legal research, writing, drafting, negotiation and demonstrated knowledge of poverty law across substantive areas;
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
● Ability to meet deadlines and perform multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail;
● Knowledge of principles of administration and supervision;
● Previous experience in a legal services program preferred;
● Knowledge of, and comfort with, intake systems and technology; and
● Ability to work cooperatively with staff effectively at all levels

$5,703 to $8,187 per month depending on experience
