Position Description: 

Disability Rights Texas has a one year fellowship available for a licensed attorney on our Community Integration and Healthcare (CI/H) Team. This full time position will be located in our Austin, TX office.

Note: This position is solely funded by a one year grant from the Sanfilippo Foundation for Children. As such, the continuation of this position’s availability past the duration of this funding is not guaranteed. The duration of one’s employment is never guaranteed.

About the Position

This is an entry level position for a newly licensed attorney. The individual selected hired for this position will be trained to and then represent Medicaid beneficiaries under the age of 21 whose requests for medically necessary healthcare have been denied, reduced, or not acted upon with reasonable promptness, or whose eligibility for a Medicaid waiver program (e.g., MDCP) has been denied.

About the Team

The Community Integration/Healthcare Team works with individuals with disabilities who choose to live in the community in the least restrictive environment. Their clients are comprised of individuals with disabilities that are leaving institutions as well as those already residing in the community. The CI/H Team assists persons with accessing or maintaining affordable healthcare services (e.g., durable medical equipment, private duty nursing, attendant care, medical therapies) by way of representation in Medicaid Fair Hearings. They are also tasked with bringing litigation to enforce the ADA-Olmstead Integration Mandate, litigation of Medicaid Act claims, and litigation of Fair Housing Act claims regarding discrimination against community group homes.
