About Hawaii Appleseed
The Hawaii Appleseed Center for Law and Economic Justice is committed to a more socially just Hawai'i, where everyone has genuine opportunities to achieve economic security and fulfill their potential. We change systems that perpetuate inequality and injustice through policy development, legislative advocacy, coalition building, and litigation.

Hawaii Appleseed's work is focused on five main areas that are critical to providing opportunities for self-sufficiency for people in Hawai'i: (1) Affordable Housing, (2) Education, (3) Health, (4) Ending Hunger, and (5) Tax, Budget & Economic Fairness.

Working with community partners and state and local leaders, we have obtained the following successes, which are representative of the type of work that we do in the area of affordable housing:
Passage of an Oahu ordinance allowance Accessory Dwelling Units, and creation of a network of resources to guide homeowners through the development process
Obtaining over $100 million in funding for housing and homelessness interventions that work, such as Housing First and the Rental Housing Revolving Fund
Jumpstarting the development of a 104-unit micro-unit apartment building in Kakaako, the first of its kind in Hawai'i.
