Dear NLADA Mutual Member:

April is Second Chance Month, which is important to NLADA Mutual Insurance Co., RRG. As a member-owned mutual insurance company dedicated exclusively to serving the equal justice community, we are working for you in the broader insurance industry.

Second Chance Month focuses on the importance of successful reentry for the 1 in 3 adults in America with a criminal record. The campaign, established by proclamation of the White House, aims to raise awareness and to help individuals, communities, and agencies across the country play a role in supporting the successful reentry of people back into their communities. For many, a second chance may well be their first real opportunity to flourish.

At NLADA Mutual, we are working to educate the insurance industry on the benefits of supporting the clients you serve and to develop products and practices that do not prevent people with a criminal history from acquiring affordable insurance coverage. To that end, we have launched the Insurance, Equity, and Justice Initiative, which seeks to leverage insurers’ influence and business interests to support community and justice needs. This initiative aims for win-wins: good for business, good for justice.

I was delighted to be invited to give remarks at a recent meeting of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners Standing Committee on Race and Insurance about obstacles people with a criminal record face securing life insurance. You can read my remarks here – they are brief I promise!

Please stay connected with us on Linked In to learn more about our efforts in advancing justice and equity and as we post valuable resources for the community and member-insureds!

Thank you for trusting us with your insurance needs and for the important role you play every day in making equal justice a reality.

Warmly,
Jo-Ann Wallace
President, CEO & Board Chair
