About Hiscock Legal Aid: Hiscock Legal Aid (HLA), founded in 1949, is a non-profit agency located in Syracuse, New York and is a primary provider of legal services to low-income individuals in Central New York. HLA promotes the right of every person to equal justice under the law by providing high-quality legal assistance to individuals and families in need. About the Position: HLA seeks attorneys or recent law graduates to join our well-established and long-standing Family Court Program to represent adult clients in Onondaga County Family Court. Attorneys in the Family Court Program provide direct representation to clients primarily in Family Offense/Order of Protection, Abuse/Neglect, Custody/Visitation and Support Violation cases. Family Court Program Attorneys each handle a caseload consisting of cases from at least one of those practice areas, but work collaboratively with one another and under the supervision of a Managing Attorney to provide high-quality, client-centered representation in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. Law Assistants provide administrative support to attorneys, and an on-staff Client Resource Specialist is available to assist clients with non-legal needs.

Qualifications: Admission or pending admission to New York Bar, or awaiting results from July 2023 bar exam. Demonstrated commitment to public-interest law and to serving low-income persons. Ability to multi-task and work both independently and as part of a team. Strong written and oral advocacy skills. Diverse economic, social, and/or cultural experiences.

Salary Transparency: $65,000 to $90,907 annually for attorneys admitted to New York Bar, depending on candidate qualifications and experience. $60,000 for law graduates awaiting admission to New York Bar. Candidates hired for the Family Court Program will also receive a $3,000 annual stipend in addition to their base salary.

Office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday from Labor Day through Memorial Day, and 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
