Position Description: 

Life Span is a nationally known leader in the provision of services to victims of violence and their children. We are a financially secure organization with over 40 years of consistent and reliable funding. Our comprehensive services include criminal court advocacy representation in civil protective order cases, expert representation in family law cases, and counseling for survivors and their children. Our work encompasses such issues as police domestic violence, immigration, employment issues, sexual assault civil no contact orders, the effects of trauma on clients and their children, teen dating violence, and battered women as respondents in civil cases. Our agency has two sites, and services are available in nine languages including English, Spanish, Polish and Arabic. All services are free of charge. Our agency provides national leadership in policy work and systemic advocacy, and our staff has trained advocates, lawyers, judges, counselors, and other professionals in Illinois and across the country on critical issues and innovative practices.

The Human Trafficking Project Community Outreach Advocate provides direct services to the Project’s clients. The advocate will work in several community organizations to serve clients in their own neighborhoods. The Community Outreach Advocate will initially complete a 40-hour Domestic Violence training and a 40-hour Sexual assault training.

Job Duties:
• Help to establish partner relationships with community organizations.
• Assess the need for HTP services at each location on an ongoing basis.
• Establish a set day and time weekly to provide direct services to clients at each partner organization.
• Provide direct service to clients, including
crisis intervention
safety planning
case management including identification of referrals for clients
explain rights and remedies under the IDVA and the CNCO Act
legal advocacy
convene client groups for support, information.
• Develop and maintain additional collaborative partnerships.
• Conduct professional and public awareness education, training and technical assistance on human trafficking.
• Participate in community organizational meetings.
• Participate in HTP staff meetings.
• Maintain active participation in the Cook County Human Trafficking Task Force.
• Attend trainings on HT related topics.
• Maintain statistical service records and case file documentation on assigned cases.

Requirements: 

Experience in anti-trafficking work is required
Bachelor’s degree in sociology or related field is required
Bilingual in Spanish & English preferred
Professional work experience preferred
