Position Description: 

603 Legal Aid (603 LA) has an opening for a Staff Attorney with 0-3 years of experience who will advocate to ensure that low-income and underserved residents in our community are provided with free legal advice and representation. Successful candidates may use their skills to identify, find solutions for clients in the areas of housing, and welfare/benefits civil law according to the Code of Professional Responsibility.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide a spectrum of legal assistance from advice/counsel to extended representation to eligible clients in a wide range of issues;
• Identify systemic problems that affect our clients' rights and address these challenges through affirmative advocacy and impact litigation;
• Collaborate and coordinate with other 603 Legal Aid (603 LA) staff and community partners to assure effective referrals and holistic service delivery;
• Conduct community outreach, education, and training;
• Ensure that all written work product is grammatically correct, carefully edited, well written, and appropriate for its audience;
• Develop relationships and engage in collaborations with a range of public and private community partners, including governmental agencies, courts, and community-based organizations, to ensure integrative services and address systemic barriers facing our client community;
• Demonstrate cultural competency to work with low-income clients across the spectrum of diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, immigrant status, religious identity, physical and mental disabilities, and limited English proficiency;
• Represent clients by maintaining a caseload and co-counseling at times with other staff attorneys;
• Continue professional development and substantive knowledge of all areas of law that impact our clients; and
• Maintain a current knowledge of developments in law, civil procedure, and civil litigation law and strategies.

Requirements: 

Minimum Job Requirements:
• J.D. and State of NH Bar Admission (considered if bar exam passed and admission pending);
• Previous experience working with low-income and/or underserved communities preferred;
• Demonstrated commitment and sensitivity to low-income and underserved communities; and
• Legal services background, or knowledge of general civil legal work with 0-3 years’ experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
• Strong personal work ethic and ability to organize time, manage diverse activities, and meet critical deadlines with minimal supervision;
• Excellent writing, editing, and proof-reading skills, with ability to be detail oriented;
• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with a dynamic and multi-sector team;
• Curious and self-directed with an ability to anticipate client needs;
• Cultural humility in working with low-income clients across the spectrum of diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, immigrant status, religious identity, physical and mental disabilities, and limited English proficiency;
• Familiarity with diverse communities is a plus; and
• Comfortable providing services remotely or in person; capable of providing extended and limited services.

Salary/Benefits:
This position is considered exempt for the purpose of federal wage/hour law. Salary DOE, expected to be approximately between $59,276 to $63,276 per year, plus benefits package including medical, retirement, life and disability and generous paid time off.

Salary range:
