Position Description:

Community Legal Aid (CLA) is the non-profit legal services program providing free civil legal assistance to low-income and elderly residents of Central and Western Massachusetts. CLA has over 140 dedicated, talented staff working across multiple offices. Our core work includes effective client-centered advocacy and robust outreach to and partnerships with our client communities. Because CLA does not have sufficient attorneys on staff to fully meet the demand for our services, CLA oversees several programs that provide opportunities for private attorneys from law firms and corporations to volunteer their time to provide legal assistance to CLA's client communities.

CLA seeks a full-time Pro Bono Coordinator who will help administer its Private Attorney Involvement (PAI) volunteer programs in Central and Western Massachusetts. The coordinator will work out of CLA's Worcester office and will assist clients and attorneys participating in CLA's PAI programs. The coordinator will conduct client intakes and refer appropriate cases to volunteer attorneys; open and close cases in a timely manner and maintain complete records; engage in outreach to and recruitment of volunteer attorneys, including assisting in the preparation of newsletters and other materials; assist in the presentation of PAI training events; and help coordinate lawyer for the day programs in local courts. The coordinator will also help with the preparation of periodic grant reports.

The candidate should have access to reliable transportation and be willing to occasionally travel to different parts of CLA's five-county service area. The candidate will also be required to attend meetings outside of normal business hours on occasion, including early morning and after hours.

Please apply online or submit cover letter and resumes by email to: Alicia Vaughan, Human Resources Director, [email protected]. Community Legal Aid is an Equal Opportunity Employer and strives to ensure that our staff members reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. CLA encourages applicants from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS: Experience coordinating volunteer projects strongly preferred. Strong organizational, communication, computer, and interpersonal skills are needed. Familiarity with civil legal services, the practice of law, or the Massachusetts legal system strongly preferred. Fluency in Spanish a plus.
