The Staff Attorney is a full-time member of our team who works to ensure legal professionals have the resources they need to provide excellent representation of children, parents, and agencies. This includes collecting and generating resource materials, supporting NACC’s training programs, and helping to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion within the child welfare legal community. The Staff Attorney reports to the Training Director.
NACC is based in Denver, Colorado with legal staff in multiple locations. Remote applicants in all locations will be considered, with a preference for Denver-based or DC-based candidates. Note: currently all staff work remotely and this is anticipated to continue well into 2021.
Duties and Responsibilities:
MEMBERSHIP
Supports the Training Director in developing resources for the legal community, including:
Coordinates content for The Guardian, NACC’s law journal
Coordinates content for NACC Member Webinars
Creates, organizes, and stores materials, tools, and other resource information
Serves as a resource to NACC Members and the child welfare legal community
Serves as a resource to law students considering child welfare careers
TRAINING
Supports the Training Director in developing and delivering in-person and online training
Supports NACC’s Conference program development and execution
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE/GRANTS
Provides research, writing, or other project support to NACC grants and consulting agreements
EXTERNAL
Builds relationships and programs to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the child welfare legal community and in the law school and career pipeline
TRAVEL
This position may involve some travel (5-10%). Travel for this position is not anticipated to resume until at least mid-2021.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Law degree from an accredited law school
• Active bar membership in at least one jurisdiction
• Minimum of three years practice experience in the child welfare system
• Strong written and oral communications skills
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and manage deadlines independently
• Ability to work collaboratively with the NACC Team in a remote office environment
• Commitment to advancing racial equity and combating institutional and structural racism and bias
• Commitment to advancing youth engagement and constituent voice in NACC’s programs
• Experience working with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications:
• Child Welfare Law Specialist
• Lived experience in the child welfare system
