Staff Attorney – Public Benefits/Veterans Benefits (Orlando)

Description:

Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida (CLSMF) is seeking a committed Public Benefits/Veterans Benefits Staff Attorney for our dynamic, non-profit law firm located in Orlando. Legal work includes direct representation to low-income and homeless veterans with legal issues primarily focusing on VA disability benefits and discharge upgrade and low-income non-veterans in a variety of Public Benefits issues such as: Social Security Disability cessations, Medicaid, food stamps, and unemployment.
This community based role collaborates with veterans’ organizations including VA facilities, Vet Centers for combat veterans, homeless shelters, veterans courts, and Stand Downs for homeless veterans.
The Public Benefits/Veterans Benefits Staff Attorney is a FT position with the ability to work both scheduled and flexible work hours, including some evenings/weekends, based on business need to perform duties and attend meetings and/or other functions throughout 12 county service area

Requirements: 

Must be admitted to practice law in Florida.
2 - 4 years’ experience as a lawyer. Commitment to low-income/vulnerable clients and communities on legal matters
Previous experience with Veteran’s Affairs or an agency of the Department of Defense preferred.
Ability to work effectively as a team member.
Be able to creatively and zealously advocate for clients while managing a full caseload.
Previous experience working with low-income and homeless clients, veterans and/or military families preferred.
Must possess excellent legal and community partnership skills and be computer literate (Microsoft Office 365)
Valid Florida automobile license, use of own auto, and proof of insurance necessary.
