Legal Aid of Western Michigan seeks a staff attorney to join its Berrien County office located at 901 Port Street, St. Joseph, Michigan. This attorney will provide a wide-range of legal services to low income, elderly and veteran clients. Our team of attorneys works on various cases including, but not limited to, family law, custody, landlord-tenant, public benefits, social security, collection and general civil litigation. Experience in one or more of these areas is preferred. The principal responsibilities will include, but are not limited, to the following:
• Providing legal representation and/or counsel in a wide-range of legal matters;
• Coordinating and documenting outreach with community partners;
• Litigating potentially complex custody and family law matters; and
• Assisting in the supervision and support of law students and volunteer attorneys.
The successful candidate will possess a Juris Doctorate or be eligible for admission to the Michigan State Bar. In addition to those requirements, the applicant should possess a passion for helping others, learning new areas of the law, litigation, extensive client interaction and community outreach. Computer literacy is required.
