Position Description: 

The Legal Aid Society’s Civil Practice has Housing Staff Attorney positions available as part of several expanded or established initiatives.

The housing practice handles a broad range of individual and group tenant representation at the trial and appellate levels, including holdovers, nonpayment proceedings, administrative hearings, and affirmative litigation in State and federal courts. The Staff Attorney will also work with tenant associations, tenant organizers, community-based organizations, partner legal services agencies and pro bono attorneys, and conduct regular off-site intake for applicants for legal services.

Requirements: 

The ideal candidate must have: admission to NYS Bar or pending admission; excellent written and oral advocacy skills; excellent organizational skills; the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team and manage a high volume of cases; demonstrated commitment to and experience in public interest law and civil legal services; the ability to coordinate and collaborate successfully with other groups and organizations; excellent organizational skills; proficiency in languages other than English is desirable, but not required.
