Position Description:

We are looking for a highly capable lawyer to join our staff in a full-time permanent position. The position is with our Education Team, which is working on a lawsuit against the NM Public Education Department for failing to provide a sufficient and uniform public education system, and educating lawmakers about effective education programs for low-income students.

The work at the Center on Law and Poverty is varied, always challenging and highly rewarding. The work week is reasonable and the staff superb. We offer a reasonable non-profit salary and excellent benefits.

Requirements: 

Required: Law degree and license; at least three years of experience practicing law; excellent research, writing and legal advocacy skills; ‘no-stone-unturned’ thoroughness and persistence; leadership; ability to be articulate and forceful in the face of powerful opposition; ability to problem-solve creatively; detail-orientation; and familiarity with New Mexico.

Preferred: strong Spanish language skills; poverty or civil rights law and advocacy.
