Community Legal Aid (CLA), the non-profit legal services program providing free civil legal assistance to low-income and elderly clients in central and western Massachusetts, seeks a Senior Supervising Attorney (SSA) to oversee and coordinate the work of its five-county housing unit. The unit focuses on homelessness prevention (including eviction defense, foreclosure defense, and access to affordable housing programs); fair housing; and housing-related community development issues.

The SSA will directly supervise the legal work of the unit’s advocates. The attorney will also assist with coordinating the training of staff and the community; keep abreast of legal developments in the unit’s areas of practice and serve as a legal resource for the program; co-counsel with staff in complex and/or systemic cases; and represent the program in meetings with key stakeholders and partners, and serve on committees and coalitions, related to the housing needs of low-income people. In addition, the attorney will work with CLA’s Managing Attorneys in conducting annual performance reviews of the unit’s staff, and will assist in writing grant applications and reports.

It is anticipated that the SSA will be based in CLA’s Worcester or Springfield office and will travel regularly to each of CLA’s offices to meet with advocates and participate in unit and management meetings.
