Position Description: 

Vera currently is seeking to hire a hard-working and creative person with strong quantitative and data management skills, a commitment to New Orleans, and a desire to improve the city's criminal justice system for the position of Research Analyst or Research Associate. The Research Analyst/Associate will assist with analysis and reporting needs for New Orleans Pretrial Services and other current and potential Vera initiatives.

Responsibilities 
The Research Analyst/Associate will report to the Senior Researcher and office Director and will work in close collaboration with other Vera New Orleans staff on ongoing research, performance and outcome monitoring, and data analysis projects. Principal responsibilities include: 

  • Merge, manage, and analyze large administrative databases using SQL and SPSS programs; 
  • Provide timely reports on Vera projects to our partners and funders;
  • Present findings of research, evaluation, and policy analysis to diverse audiences;
  • Convey concepts and complex sets of data visually in ways that are easy to understand and add value;
  • Create compelling and clear design presentations for varied audiences;
  • Conduct human-centered research that includes the development of early stage concepts, the visualization of new ideas, and the creation of communication tools that help others see new possibilities. Projects may require video storytelling, exhibit creation, and data visualization;
  • Assist on other projects and tasks as assigned.
Requirements: 

Candidates must possess the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related discipline or 2 years of relevant work experience;
  • Excellent strategic, problem-solving, and analytic skills;
  • Advanced programming skills in SPSS and SQL preferred;
  • Experience with quantitative data analysis (e.g., large data sets);
  • Experience creating data presentations and/or visualization of data analysis; 
  • Demonstrated skills with Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Creative Suite or Illustrator are highly preferred;
  • Ability to work on multiple projects effectively and efficiently, both independently and collaboratively with a team; 
  • Solid oral and written communication skills; and
  • Strong interest in, and knowledge of, social justice for underserved populations
