Position Description: 

The Department of Public Defense (DPD) provides legal representation and client-centered services. The Department consists of approximately 400 employees and operates one of the largest public defense agencies in the western United States. DPD represents indigent clients in several practice areas, including felonies, misdemeanors, juvenile offenders, dependencies, involuntary commitment, civil commitment of sexually violent predators and contempt of court. The Department also works to address racial disproportionality in the criminal justice system, the collateral consequences of justice involvement and other structural and/or systemic issues that undermine the rights of the criminally accused.

The Public Defense Records Specialist (Project/Program Manager II) will be responsible for managing Public Record requests for DPD. This position reports to the DPD, Policy Director

Requirements: 

•Current working knowledge of the Washington State Public Records Act.
•Demonstrated success in coordinating, managing, and responding to a high volume of public records request made per the Washington State Public Records Act.
•Knowledge of records management practices and record retention techniques and principles.
•Highly developed organizational skills with strong attention to detail and thoroughness.
•Demonstrated experience gathering, manipulating, and using data.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and Adobe Pro.
•Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision.
•Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with short turn-around timelines.
•Skill in working with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
MOST COMPETITIVE CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS: •Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Records Management, Business Administration, or related field; and two or more years of experience responding to or coordinating responses to public records act requests made per the Washington State Public Records Act; or any combination of experience/education/training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.
•WAPRO Certified Public Records Officer.

WORK LOCATION: Dexter Horton, 710 2nd Avenue, Suite 1000, Seattle, WA 98104.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position will be filled as a Temporary-Term Limited or as a special duty position. The anticipated length of this positions is two years. This position is covered by the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible. This position works a 40-hour workweek, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
