Position Description: 

Project Director, Client Specific Planning Mitigation

Responsible for the coordination and provision of client specific planning and sentence mitigation services to achieve the best possible dispositions for clients facing criminal charges, maintaining the integrity of and overseeing development of the program. Supervises direct service staff, consultants and interns.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Implement procedures to achieve all goals and objectives associated with the Client Specific Planning project and any contract goals associated with the project.

Establish and implement procedures to ensure sufficient referrals to meet objectives for the CSP project. Cultivate and expand referrals for fee paying cases. Oversee CSP intake.

Supervise project staff and interns. Review staff client specific mitigation plans before submission to defense attorney and court.

Maintain client records and perform data collection and reporting functions to DCJS, and any other funders of the CSP project.

Liaison with defense attorney, courts, and other criminal justice professionals.

Interview clients for CSP written reports. Collect and review additional information from a variety of sources including family members, employers, educators and other collateral sources. Obtain relevant documentation from collateral sources to complete CSP report.

Develop familiarity with social science research regarding issues that are relevant to our clients’ lives, including, for example, the long term impact of poverty on children’s lives, the long term impact of parental substance abuse, abandonment, the impact of incarceration on individuals, brain development, etc.

Refer clients to services with the identified program(s); and follows-up with the client to promote program engagement and completion.

Prepare written CSP in time for supervisor and referring defense attorney to review before submission; provide court advocacy at all sentence and related court appearances.

Participate in agency training and other outside training.

Assist in program development, including identification of possible on-going funding sources.

Requirements: 

Qualifications: J.D. , Esq or Master’s degree in human service field with extensive knowledge in criminal sentencing, ability to identify appropriate treatment providers and/or programs in the community and/or the correctional setting. Commitment to and experience in working with adults and youth from diverse cultural backgrounds who are involved, or at risk of involvement, with the criminal/juvenile justice system. Extensive Superior written/oral communication, project management (including project performance reporting) and supervisory skills. Computer literacy (word processing, e-mail, internet research, excel, data entry) required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Valid NYS Driver license and access to reliable vehicle. Must be able to gain access to correctional facilities.
