Position Description: 

Federal Defenders of Eastern Washington and Idaho is the Community Defender Organization (see 18 U.S.C. § 3006A(g)(2)(B)) for the Eastern District of Washington and the Northern District of Idaho. The organization is a non-profit corporation funded by a grant from the federal government. Employees of Federal Defenders of Eastern Washington and Idaho are considered “at will” and are not government employees. The organization provides defense services in federal criminal cases and related matters appointed by the court. The organization's main office is in Spokane, Washington, with a branch office in Yakima, Washington. 

Job Description: Acts as discovery specialist to organize and index the volume, format and content of discovery being received in order to assist the litigation team to properly use the discovery material for case preparation and exhibits. Create and support document databases, indexes, transcripts and images in Concordance, Summation, Live Note, Trial Director, Case Map, MS Access and similar litigation support applications. Administers databases, creates data and electronic files, OCR and transfer same to various formats. Apply knowledge of court rules, local practices and Federal Criminal Rules of Procedure in analyzing litigation support requirements.

Requirements: 

Requirements & Qualifications: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent and have at least three years of general experience in criminal law and one year paralegal experience or education in a legal or paralegal curriculum is highly desirable. Knowledge of the federal court system or criminal process is preferred. Commitment to indigent defense is preferred. Applicants must have strong organizational skills; possess research skills including knowledge of computerized databases (e.g. Lexis and Westlaw), computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat PRO, knowledge of various organizational programs (e.g. Case Map, Trial Director, and Summation) and knowledge of basic legal concepts and terminology. Experience in electronic evidence organization and review is highly desirable. Applicant must also possess the ability to work in a team environment; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; be accurate and detail-oriented; compose correspondence independently; and organize work, set priorities and meet critical deadlines. Spanish language proficiency is preferred, but not required.

Salary range:
