Community Legal Aid (CLA), a non-profit legal services program providing free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income and elderly clients in Central and Western Massachusetts, seeks a Coordinating Attorney to assist with the coordination of the work done by the its housing unit. The Attorney will be based in one of CLA’s western Mass. offices. The attorney’s work will focus on eviction defense, affordable housing programs, and fair housing. The attorney will: mentor staff in connection with casework and other projects; provide consultation and advice at the request of other staff members; co-counsel major projects and cases with other staff; review cases completed by other advocates prior to case closure; and assist with grant-writing, reporting, and other projects related to the coordination of the unit’s work.


QUALIFICATIONS: At least five years practicing law, with at least two years in legal services or comparable public interest work; substantial experience in eviction defense and other landlord-tenant and housing law; litigation experience in complex cases and/or significant experience coordinating special projects; self-motivated, imaginative and aggressive in identifying, responding to and pursuing legal issues on behalf of CLA’s clients; and capable of providing effective mentoring and consultation.
