Position Description: 

Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida (CLSMF) is seeking a dynamic attorney to serve as the medical-legal partnership attorney for an exciting new medical-legal partnership between CLSMF and the West Volusia Hospital Association (WVHA) in Volusia County.

This position will require the attorney to work in West Volusia County. This is a full time position. Candidates must be bilingual (English/Spanish). CLSMF offers an excellent benefits package: free health, dental, disability and life insurance, generous paid time off program, and more.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct legal services to underserved, low-income clients in a variety of civil legal matters, including public benefits, housing and family law;
• Build a new program from the ground up;
• Engage in outreach to and develop strong working relationships with medical and behavioral health organizations in west Volusia County; and
• Serve as CLSMF’s liaison to WVHA’s Commissioners.

Requirements: 

• 2 - 4 years’ experience working with low-income and/or vulnerable clients and communities on civil legal matters;
• Commitment to improving community health;
• Spoken and written fluency in English and Spanish;
• Experience taking initiative and displaying leadership in previous employment or volunteer positions;
• Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team;
• Flexibility;
• Comfort with public speaking;
• Enthusiasm about the opportunity to engage in outreach and build a new program; and
• Experience working in a health care setting before or after law school is a plus.

In addition, applicants must:
• Be admitted to practice law in Florida or obtain admission to Florida Bar within 6 months;
• Have excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Be able to creatively and zealously advocate for clients while managing a full caseload; and
• Have a valid Florida Driver’s License.
