Position Description: 

Legal Aid Services of Oregon (LASO) is seeking a Statewide Pro Bono Program Manager to be based in its Central Administrative Office in Portland.

Background
LASO is a non-profit organization that represents low-income clients in civil cases. LASO’s eight regional offices serve the general low-income population throughout the state and two specialized statewide programs provide services to farmworkers and representation on Native American issues. LASO is an effective, high-quality legal services program committed to advocacy strategies having the broadest possible impact on client community problems.

LASO also operates a number of highly successful pro bono programs for volunteer attorneys. The Statewide Pro Bono Manager will supervise two staff attorneys. As a team, the three pro bono professionals will operate numerous existing pro bono programs, recruit and mentor new pro bono attorneys and develop new pro bono programs throughout the state.

Responsibilities
The Pro Bono Manager provides leadership to establish and operate effective and efficient statewide pro bono services as part of a statewide integrated system delivering free civil legal services for low income people in Oregon. Responsibilities include helping regional offices develop and operate pro bono programs; creating and maintaining excellent relationships with the private bar; recruiting and mentoring pro bono attorneys; and developing systems to use Portland metro area attorneys in representing clients throughout the state. The Pro Bono Manager will work with legal aid staff around the state, the Oregon Law Center, the Oregon State Bar, local bar associations, private law firms, corporate legal departments, government attorneys, individual attorneys, the judiciary, Oregon law schools, the Campaign for Equal Justice and other community organizations.

Salary/Benefits
Salary depends on experience. Full benefits package including health insurance and 401(k) plan.

Requirements: 

• Strong background in pro bono delivery.
• Significant poverty law experience.
• Excellent organizational and managerial skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Willing to travel within Oregon regularly.
• Oregon State Bar member or willing to take next exam.
