Position Description: 

Community Legal Aid (CLA) is the non-profit legal services program providing free civil legal assistance to low-income and elderly residents of central and western Massachusetts. CLA has over 100 dedicated, talented staff working across multiple offices, and a budget of $11 million. Our core work includes effective client-centered advocacy and robust outreach to and partnerships with our client communities.

CLA seeks an attorney to work on its veterans' project for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension. The attorney will provide legal assistance to veterans and their families in a variety of cases involving housing, veteran-specific benefits, family law, character of service determinations, and discharge status issues. The attorney will design and deliver community legal education sessions.The attorney will be based in CLA's Worcester office. The position is full-time, but part-time hours are negotiable.

Requirements: 

QUALIFICATIONS: Admission to Mass. Bar, or eligible to sit for the next MASS. Bar examination, or entitled to practice under SJC Rule 3:04. Candidate must have a passion for and demonstrated commitment to serving veterans. Experience working with veterans and experience with veteran-specific legal issues is strongly preferred. Experience with community outreach and education is preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a collaborative setting are important.
