The Judicial Service Commission of the Republic of the Marshall Islands is accepting applications for the position:

ASSOCIATE JUSTICE
OF THE HIGH COURT

The Commission is constitutionally responsible to recommend candidates for judicial appointment by the Cabinet, subject to confirmation by legislative resolution.

The High Court is a superior court of record having general jurisdiction over controversies of law and fact in the Marshall Islands. Justices of the High Court may also be appointed as temporary justices of the Republic of the Marshall Islands Supreme Court.

An Associate Justice receives compensation provided by statute, including an annual salary of USD$80,000, monthly housing allowance of $750, monthly electric allowance of 750 kWh (currently $259.50), and, if the judge is not already a resident or citizen of the Republic, travel and moving expenses from the point of hire and back. The term of service for citizens is until age 72 and for non-citizens two years with the Government’s option to offer a two-year extension. The responsibilities of an Associate Justice include deciding cases in accordance with the Constitution and laws of the Republic and performing such other functions, including administrative functions, as directed by the Chief Justice of the High Court.

The Commission will consider applications from individuals who (i) are licensed to practice law in a common law jurisdiction and in good standing for at least ten years, (ii) have significant judicial and/or trial experience, (iii) have a history of superior work ethic, job performance, and the ability to work well with others (iv) have a record of conduct, both professional and personal, that is above reproach, (v) have an interest in, and consideration of, the cultural and development realities of the Marshall Islands, and (vi) are otherwise qualified by education, experience, and character to carry out the responsibilities of an associate justice. All applicants must disclose any disciplinary proceedings of which they have been a subject.
