Position Description: 

STAFF ATTORNEY position is available in the Denver office of Colorado Legal Services (CLS), Health and Elder Law Unit, to represent vulnerable and/or low-income individuals and seniors in actions involving health benefits (Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, and public assistance) in state and federal agencies and courts and to advocate for these issues with grantors and community organizations. CLS is a statewide, legal aid program with 13 offices and more than 55 attorneys; the successful candidate will be extensively trained, handle her/his own caseload, advocate for low-income people, negotiate with opposing attorneys, engage with community organizations and complete outreach to senior populations, and go to hearing often. The CLS salary range begins at $44,125 (DOE), and includes a $300 monthly flex-spending stipend, and excellent benefits such as generous leave (holiday, annual, personal, and health), employer-paid health, dental, vision, long-term disability, and life insurance. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate her/his sensitivity to the legal needs of low-income individuals, seniors, and minorities. Bilingual English/Spanish skill is desired.

Requirements: 

License to practice law in Colorado or eligible to complete waiver process from another state.
